This lithograph from a series I also saw by Oskar Kokoschka in 1907, began as a commission but after the first page he abandoned his brief to form a complex ‘picture- poem’ combining image and fragmented verse written by him. Kokoschka referred to this work as a love letter, dedicated to a girl called Lilith Lang with whom he attended art school with. I particularly like the colour that he has chosen to work with throughout the series.
